Juniper buys net optimizer WANDL for $60M

Juniper Networks this week said it is acquiring WANDL, a maker of network planning, management, design and optimization software for service providers, for $60 million.

Juniper said the WANDL software will give it traffic engineering, multi-layer optimization and path computation technology to help service provider customers improve the performance and cost of their networks. WANDL offers a portfolio of network analysis, simulation, optimization, capacity planning and management software designed to make service provider network more efficient in performance and cost.

"As our service provider customers continue to focus on finding ways to address the proliferation of mobile, video, cloud computing and other data-intensive services, they will benefit from WANDL's capabilities to design and manage networks more easily and cost efficiently, at any scale," said Daniel Hua, senior vice president and general manager of Juniper's routing business unit, in a statement.WANDL had been a technology partner of Juniper's.

WANDL will continue to be headquartered in New Jersey, and will work with Juniper Networks' OpenLab innovation center to develop network-integrated applications. The transaction is expected to close in January 2014.
