Clive Whincup
Woolworths has confirmed that Westpac Australia CIO Clive Whincup will be joining the company as its new CIO later in 2014.
A spokeswoman said that Whincup’s experience of retail in a banking environment and leadership of large scale IT programs would be of “great value” to Woolworths.
“We look forward to welcoming Clive to our team in coming months,” she said in a statement.
According to a report in the Australian Financial Review, the supermarket’s previous CIO Dan Beecham left Woolworths in late 2013 to move to the United Kingdom.
A Westpac Australia spokesman confirmed that Whincup would be leaving the bank.
“Clive has played an important role in the delivery of Westpac’s technology strategy. We wish him all the best for the future,” he said.
The spokesman added that Paul Spiteri will act as interim CIO while the bank conducts an internal and external search for a new CIO.
“There will be no impact to the IT leadership team. Paul has acted as Clive’s delegate on a number of occasions and is familiar with the responsibilities of the role.”
Whincup was promoted to the Westpac CIO role in December 2011 after former CIO Bob McKinnon moved to the Group Services division as an enterprise executive.
Whincup joined the bank in May 2009 as service delivery applications general manager and was promoted to service delivery group general manager in November 2010 where he was responsible for service delivery in applications, infrastructure, engineering and sustainability.
