OpenText takes data centre space in Sydney

Data sovereignty requirements led Canadian-based company to start offering services

Enterprise information management software vendor OpenText has begun offering cloud services from the NTT Communications data centre in Sydney.

The company has taken cage space within the facility and is providing cloud services including the management and exchange of information. Some of OpenText’s Australian customers include Telstra and Computershare.

OpenText CIO Patrick Harper told CIO Australia that it needed to offer local services to meet Australian data sovereignty requirements.

“We needed to be able to store and manage their data and provide the appropriate levels of compliance. By having a location in Sydney, we can ensure that not only is the performance adequate but the data is located where they need it to be.”

The vendor has offices in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra. It also offers cloud services out of nine data centres in the United States and Europe.

In related news, cloud contact centre vendor LiveOps began offering services from the Equinix data centre in Sydney in response to demand from its 65 Australian and New Zealand customers this week.

According to the company, it will be able to provide customers, including Symantec, Amway and ADT, with high-speed access to its cloud-based network.
