Former Suncorp Business Services CEO Jeff Smith has been appointed as IBM’s global chief information officer, based in the United States.
An IBM spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday morning that Smith will be leading IBM's technology strategy.
Smith resigned his position at Suncorp in June and at the time indicated that he was moving to a senior global executive role at IBM.
Suncorp Group’s former CIO Matt Pancino was appointed as chief executive of business services at the company in June. The financial services company has not yet announced a new CIO.
Smith was CIO at Suncorp between March 2007 and July 2010. He was also CIO at Telstra between November 2001 and May 2005.
