Terms of the purchase were not disclosed.

The Vistapointe software provides carrier-grade network visibility and analytics for mobile operators deploying Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) architectures, Brocade says. NFV runs network services, like firewalls, VPNs and NAT, in software on x86-based servers instead of on dedicated hardware.

Brocade says the acquisition enables it to address emerging opportunities and requirements of service provider customers, especially global Mobile Network Operators (MNOs). The software is designed to allow them to classify, visualize, manage, and secure subscriber data traffic and enhance service delivery.

The expected revenue for data traffic over mobile handsets will exceed $358 billion by 2018, Brocade says, citing data from research firm Analysys Mason. This represents the single largest source of revenue for MNOs over the next six years, the company says.

The Vistapointe assets will be part of a new Network Visibility and Analytics group at Brocade reporting into Jason Nolet, vice president of the Switching, Routing, and Analytics products group at the company. Vistapointe CEO Ravi Medikonda has joined Brocade as vice president of the Network Visibility and Analytics product group.

Brocade has also hired the Vistapointe development team, which will report to Medikonda.
