50% of app testing in the cloud by 2017

Financial and telecommunications sectors leading the charge

More CIOs are tapping into cloud infrastructure and analytics for application quality and testing purposes, a research study has found. Participants expect that almost half of their apps will be tested in the cloud by 2017.

Capgemini interviewed 1,543 CIOs and testing leaders in its World Quality Report 2014-15, 6 per cent who were from Australia and New Zealand.

In A/NZ, the share of apps being tested in the cloud has increased from 28 per cent in 2013 to 31 per cent in 2014.

When compared to the global figures, testing apps in the cloud increased from 24 per cent last year to 32 per cent this year, and this is estimated to grow to 49 per cent by 2017.

“More companies – specifically in the more IT-mature financial and telecom sectors – are beginning to realise the benefits of using cloud for test environment management, and are in the process of building the infrastructure to support it,” Mark Powditch, director, testing services, Capgemini Australia, said in the report.

The majority of A/NZ respondents said about 28 per cent of their apps have been migrated to the cloud, and increase from 24 per cent in 2013.

The global figures show that new development projects account for 52 per cent of CIOs’ testing budget, of which 40 per cent is allocated to big data and analytics, 27 per cent to cloud, and 17 per cent to mobile.
