Back in January 2013, BlackBerry gave me its first BlackBerry 10 smartphone, the Z10, for review. It also gave me a "reviewer's kit" composed of a number of accessories: a case, screen cleaner cloth and a "battery charger bundle," among other things.

I like the BlackBerry Z10, but after a month or so I retired it to the Land of Misfit Tech Toys -- a desk drawer brimming with phones, tablets and a variety of accessories from years gone by -- because it didn't have a physical keyboard. For me, BlackBerry is and always has been about the keyboard.

I didn't think about the Z10 very often after discarding it, but I did think about that battery bundle. In fact, the extra battery bundle created more of a lasting impression on me than the Z10. The accessory comes with an extra battery, which is a must for me with any phone that has a replaceable battery. It can be used to charge the spare battery, it uses LEDs to show charging status, and it's small so it doesn't take up a lot of space in your travel bag.

Today, whenever I get a new device with a removable battery, one of the first things I do is look to see if it has a comparable battery charger bundle. I'm currently using a Samsung Galaxy Note 4, so I was pleased to see AndroidCentral tweet this morning about Samsung's extra battery kit for the Note 4, which is similar to that Z10 bundle. I don't have one yet, but assuming it works as advertised, I'd say this is a must-have accessory for travelers with Galaxy Note 4 devices.

The kit costs $37.95 on AndroidCentral, which is about $7 cheaper than the $44.99 Samsung charges for it online. It's also available for $39.99 on Amazon.com, and if you're an Amazon Prime customer, you get free shipping, though the gadget appears to be out of stock at the moment.

If you're a frequent traveler with a Galaxy Note 4, or any other phone with a removable battery, you'll find a close friend in one of these extra battery bundles. I promise.
