Westpac Group bolsters IT team with two appointments

Robert Wilson hired as CTO while Richard Holmes steps into infrastructure & operations GM role

Westpac Group has looked to bolster its IT team with the hiring of Robert Wilson as CTO while former Westpac retail, business banking & wealth CIO Richard Holmes has moved into the role of infrastructure & operations general manager.

Wilson will begin his new role at the bank in January 2015. He was SAP global head for retail banking & strategic engagements. While at the vendor, he carried out transformation programs for Deustche Postbank, Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA), ANZ Bank, HSBC and Kiwibank.

According to Westpac, Wilson will be tasked with re-architecting the bank’s record, engagement and insight systems.

Meanwhile, Holmes has worked at Westpac Group for 15 years. He had been in the retail, business banking & wealth CIO role for over a year. Prior to this, Holmes was the CIO of BT Financial Group, a Westpac subsidiary, for one year.

Both men will report to Westpac CIO Dave Curran.

According to Curran, a “global search” is underway for two general managers to join the bank’s IT department. One will lead applications development while the other will be in charge of business integration.

In April 2014, Westpac announced that former Goldman Sachs technology infrastructure managing director David Simpson would join the bank as global chief of infrastructure in May 2014.

At the time, the bank also promoted BT head of technology, platforms, operations and business transformation Ana Cammaroto to the role of BT Financial Group CIO.
