Westfield’s director of information technology, Peter Bourke, has quit his post and will leave the shopping centre organisation on December 31.

Bourke told CIO Australia on Monday afternoon that he was “transitioning out” of the organisation and his role won't be replaced. He had been in the role since 2005 and over the past 12 months became director of IT for Scentre Group, which owns and operates Westfield in Australia and New Zealand.

Scentre Group was created in mid-2014 when Westfield Group separated its United States and European organisations from its operations in Australia and New Zealand.

Bourke said he is looking around for something new and Westfield was a “great place to work”. He said he had “delivered a great amount of activity” during his tenure.

He has led big data and analytics, and hybrid cloud projects at the organisation, Salesforce, a HRIS, and mapping and financial reporting system implementations, as well as a re-implemented ERP platform.

Westfield has also pushed heavily into the mobile apps space. Last April, Bourke spoke to CIO Australia about how the organisation had worked with Google to create an app that helps people locate and navigate shopping centres.

In late 2013, the organisation also unveiled a searchable mall app that helps consumers find items to purchase before they visit one of the company’s shopping centres.

This was the first innovation to come out of Westfield labs, the group’s global digital lab based in San Francisco. Westfield operations in Australia and New Zealand, the UK and the US work with the lab to create products for digital shoppers.

Prior to his role at Westfield, Bourke was managing director at Viecore, a practice leader at Getronics, and managing director of Horwarth Computer IT Consulting Services.
