Al Blake has begun in his new role as principal analyst, public sector at Ovum, having left his role as CIO at the Department of the Environment in January this year.
A spokesperson from the department said the CIO role has been filled by Claire Howlett.
Blake has worked as a senior tech executive in government for about nine and half years. During 2005-2010, he was director of technology improvement at Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities before he took on his CIO role.
At Ovum, he will work in the government practice, with a focus on mobility and virtualization, enterprise integration and sustainable ICT in a government context.
“I also have a special interest in service delivery to remote locations and marginal groups,” he wrote on his LinkedIn profile.
During his time at the Department of the Environment, Blake implemented BYOD across the whole department with desktop virtualisation.
He also took an interest in green IT initiates, driving development and adoption of this in government.
“My practical experience across the ICT landscape, including database analysis and design, networking, IT security and enterprise integration will be able to bridge the gap between strategic vision and tactical delivery within the public sector space,” Blake said in a statement.
Another former government CIO that moved into an analyst role was Glenn Archer. In April last year, the former Australian Government CIO was appointed research VP for Gartner’s public sector research group.
