Melbourne IT and 2nd Watch in cloud alliance

Companies providing access to services used in the United States by Lenovo, Nast and Yamaha

Melbourne IT has struck an alliance with Amazon Web Services partner, 2nd Watch to offer cloud migration capabilities to organisations across Australia and New Zealand.

The alliance will see 2nd Watch bring its fixed price cloud migration services – already offered in the United States – to the local market. 2nd Watch’s services are currently used in the US by big brands such as Lenovo, Nast, and Yamaha.

Peter Wright, executive general manager, enterprise services, at Melbourne IT, said cloud adoption in the US is more advanced than in Australia.

He said that Australian and New Zealand organisations can now utilise the same data centre experience and outcomes that US companies benefit from – faster, risk managed and fixed price data centre migrations.

“Since the AWS launch in Australia in November 2012, there has been strong adoption of the AWS cloud in Australia with the first wave of cloud activity, which involved building and launching web and digital apps, test and development workloads and analytics in the cloud,” Wright said.

“The rapid pace of local adoption has proven that cloud unlocks agility and innovation. While this trend will continue, a new wave of traditional enterprise workload migration to the cloud is emerging, which will continue to deliver significant efficiencies and savings to organisations that have built trust to move their line of business applications to the cloud,” he said.

One of the partnership’s first customers in Australia is Booking Boss, an online booking supplier to the travel industry. Due to rapid expansion, the company needed to migrate its entire business to a managed cloud environment.

But the company faced the common problem of lacking availability of internal resources to drive the migration, Wright said.
