Optus and Microsoft partner on cloud

Optus customers have access to a private cloud solution on the Microsoft Azure platform

Optus Business will be the first Australian network service provider to partner with Microsoft in its Cloud OS Network.

The agreement expands Optus' cloud capabilities, enabling the telco to offer enterprise and government customers a private, managed cloud solution on the Microsoft Azure platform. These customers can now deploy IT resources across private, public or hybrid cloud environments.

“Increasingly, our customers want more flexibility in the way they use their cloud environment to realise the benefits of as-a-service and consumption-based models,” said John Paitaridis, managing director, Optus Business.

“We are excited about this partnership which means that Optus enterprise and government customers can benefit from a combination of industry-leading Microsoft technology and Optus’ managed cloud and hosting expertise.”

Optus plans to share more about its broader cloud strategy at Optus Vision 2015 - the vendor's annual ICT talkfest to be held in Sydney next month.

Optus’ Microsoft Cloud professional services delivery was recently strengthened by the acquisition of IT professional and managed services company, Ensyst.

“The Cloud OS Network program is for service providers who have embraced the vision of cloud computing,” said Pip Marlow, managing director, Microsoft Australia.

“Ultimately, cloud is all about creating new opportunities more quickly, improving employee productivity and lowering costs – and this new partnership helps Australian organisations to achieve these goals,”

Optus Business confirmed last month that it would be one of the first major telco and ICT providers to join the Federal Government’s Cloud Services Provider’s panel.
