St George Bank releases Cardless Cash

Follows Commonwealth Bank with cardless technology

St George Bank on Tuesday released its Cardless Cash mobile app feature, which allows customers to withdraw money using their smartphone.

More than 50 per cent of the bank’s customers use the St George mobile banking app when making payments, according to CIO, Dhiren Kulkarni.

“Our customers never want to be shut off from their cash and they want quick, simple options to access and manage their money,” he said.

Customers can withdraw up to three times a day, totalling up to $1000 per week. Any of the bank’s ATMs nationwide, including BankSA and Bank of Melbourne, will work with the app feature.

To withdraw cash, customers first sign into the bank’s mobile app and select the ‘cardless cash’ feature.

They then select their account they want to withdraw from and the amount. A ‘cash code’ is then generated, which is used to withdraw cash by selecting the ‘cardless withdraw’ button the on ATM.

Once the code is entered into the ATM and the amount confirmed, customers can receive their money. They can also send their cash code to a friend of family member via SMS within the app.

This app feature follows the Commonwealth Bank’s Cardless Cash mobile app feature, released around end of April 2014. CommBank customers can withdraw up to $500 once a day and can nominate someone else to transact on their behalf.
