DFAT outsources support to NEC

Replaces Fujitsu in contract to provide IT support for 12,000 end users

The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) has awarded NEC a four-year contract to provide support for 12,000 end users at 160 sites globally.

These services were previously being provided by Fujitsu.

Under the Global Support Centre contract, NEC Australia will become the first point of contact for ICT services for the department.

The vendor will also work with DFAT to improve the department’s ICT service capabilities through a new IT service management tool and the introduction of industry-standard service delivery processes.

NEC has broad experience transitioning and steering managed ICT services for Australian enterprise and government organisations, including the Northern Territory government, the Department of Defence, and Department of Parliamentary Services.

The company manages more than 4,800 servers, 75,000 desktops and around 500,000 end points at 1,340 locations across Australia.

Last December, it signed a $55 million deal to support 20,000 users across the Northern Territory government.

Fujitsu is still working inside DFAT. It signed an 8-year managed services deal in 2013 to provide a Microsoft customer relationship management (CRM) system, which is used to issue Australian passports.
