Average IT salary hits $104K

Demand for mobile and infrastructure roles continues to rise

The average advertised salary for IT professionals in Australia is now $104,301, the highest it has been since March, according to tech job specialist, Gooroo.

In the three months to October 2015, the average advertised salary of local technology positions increased by 1.4 per cent in August, 1.2 per cent in September and 2 per cent in October.

Meanwhile, tech salaries in the United States have declined, falling 3.7 per cent in October. The United Kingdom has also been facing a similar downward pressures in recent months bint October saw the average tech salary in Britain bounce back to an average of £46,570.

The rise in Australian salaries is good news for the local technology industry, Gooroo CEO, Greg Muller said in a statement.

“The lure for great tech talent to move overseas, particularly to areas like Silicon Valley, has been strong in recent years but this could be just the boost Australia needs to keep our talent onshore,” he said.

In Australia, the demand for mobile skills has continued to see increased average salaries, rising another 1.4 per cent in October to an average of $105,096. Demand for infrastructure roles continued to rise from September by adding a further 2.3 per cent to average $106,287.

“Software development roles have once again topped the average salaries in Australia, averaging $109,026 which is a 2.4 per cent turnaround from recent months where it has seen slight declines,” said Muller.

“Unfortunately, the good news doesn’t extend to those in database technology roles where advertised salaries contributed to fall a further 1.4 per cent in October.”
