New ACS president, Anthony Wong
The Australian Computer Society (ACS) has appointed Anthony Wong as its new president for a two-year term. Wong will start on 1 January 2016.
Wong is replacing outgoing ACS president, Brenda Aynsley, who finishes up on December 31.
Wong is a fellow of the ACS and holds certified professional status with the organisation and is principal at multidisciplinary law and consulting firm, AGW Lawyers & Consultants.
He has held senior management positions across enterprise and government, including CIO at the Australian Tourist Commission during the Sydney 2000 Olympics.
He chaired the NSW government’s ICT Advisory Panel, and was a member of the NSW government’s Accelerating Digital Government Taskforce in 2014.
Wong said in a statement that he would build on ACS’ position as one of the first evangelists for ICT professionalism.
“Recent events in the UN General Assembly and around the globe suggest that our leaders are beginning to acknowledge the importance of ICT professionalism and the need for professional excellence in the practice of ICT,” he said.
ACS CEO, Andrew Johnson, praised Wong’s election, and paid tribute to Aynsley, saying her legacy will be one of great change for the organisation and a significant improvement in the profile of women in ICT.
