NBN will create a mosaic artwork featuring the faces of Australians and print it on the rocket carrying its second satellite into space in late 2016.
The company responsible for rolling out the national broadband network is asking Australians to submit photos of themselves to be part of the artwork, which will be printed on the rocket’s nose cone.
NBN said on Monday that there are spots for 1,210 heads on the rocket. Photos will be the best valid entries as assessed by judges from an external agency on the basis of creativity and suitability, NBN said.
Photos that are 10MB or less can be submitted here, entries close on May 22.
Sky Muster II is being launched from the French Guiana Space Centre in South America later this year.
Along with NBN’s first satellite – Sky Muster – the second satellite is providing high-speed broadband services to around 200,000 Australians in regional and rural areas.
Sky Muster was blasted into orbit last October. Retailers Active8me, Harbour ISP, and SkyMesh began selling satellite services last month after a successful trial with 200 homes delivering average speeds of 25/5Mbps.
There are now 600 technicians installing satellite services. NBN is planning to connect eight million homes and businesses to the NBN by 2020.
