EOI call to overhaul ERP, billing and CRM systems

Sydney Water is seeking an implementation partner to design, build and run new ERP, billing and CRM systems in a 'once in a generation investment'.

“We are working on a once in a generation investment in technology that will deliver a customer focused, forward thinking, mobile and integrated business,” said George Hunt, CIO of Sydney Water.

“We are looking for a dynamic and experienced partner to help us achieve this goal.”

Australia’s largest water and wastewater service provider is embarking on a major digital transformation under Hunt’s leadership. Hunt joined in March following the retirement of Stephen Wilson.

Sydney Water's existing billing platform was written on an IBM mainframe in the 1980s using the PL/I programming language. It ran a successful billing system prototype with SAP last year.

Speaking to CIO Australia, Hunt said the company was now “open for business”.

“There’s a different philosophy around partnering with organisations,” he said. “Historically we’ve been quite closed to working in a collaborative fashion with vendors and suppliers and other companies. We’re not going to do that anymore.”

A request for Expressions of Interest has been released by NSW Government which covers design and development, organisational change management, platform implementation, legacy integration, data migration, reporting and deployment.

Hunt said Sydney Water was looking for a partner with strong industry relationships and previous experience implementing SAP ERP, CRM systems and working with utilities.

“We are looking for a dynamic and experienced partner to help us achieve this goal,” he said. “We need a partner that will work openly and transparently to guide and direct the project towards success.”

He added that the successful partner would “win our hearts and minds” and “recognise the value in working together to help each other succeed”.

The EOI request has been release on the NSW Government eTendering website. An industry briefing will take place on June 16 at the Department of Finance.
