New innovation hub set to hatch in Melbourne in early 2017: Cognizant

The space will showcase new technologies in action, provide a fabrication space for prototyping, and a range of collaboration tools.

The Government of Victoria’s Minister for Small Business, Innovation and Trade, Philip Dalidakis, has welcomed the creation of an innovation hub in Melbourne, which aims to help businesses win in the digital economy.

Dalidakis praised the creation of the state-of-the art Cognizant Digital Works Collaboratory, which will measure around 300 sq.m. and will be operational by early 2017.

It will provide a dedicated space for interdisciplinary teams of strategists, designers, technologists, data scientists, and human sciences experts to work side-by-side to design the digital solutions of tomorrow and tap into the US$20.1 billion opportunity that experts predict will be unlocked by digital transformation in the Asia Pacific region by 2017.

Cognizant is a world leader in building the digital economy and we welcome the company’s decision to locate their new Australia New Zealand HQ and state-of-the-art Collaboratory in Melbourne,” said Dalidakis.

“This is a huge vote of confidence in Victoria as a magnet for tech and business investment, as well as a big boost for high-skill jobs in our booming tech sector.”

The space will showcase new technologies in action, provide a fabrication space for prototyping, a range of collaboration tools, as well as supporting technologies for mobile and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions.

Cognizant established its presence in Melbourne in 2006, and the city will serve as the company’s Australia headquarters.

ANZ head of Cognizant and APAC head of Digital Works, John Burgin, said the investment is mainly in talent, including designers, strategists, technologists, data scientists and human sciences specialists, who will design, prototype and iterate next-generation digital solutions and help clients reimagine their businesses.

"Cognizant Digital Works, our digital transformation practice that brings together human insight, digital strategy, industry knowledge, design, and new technologies to help clients create, build, and run digital business solutions, is the single point of entry that brings the power of Cognizant’s digital resources to our clients in a nimble way to help them crystallise digital strategies with an eye to cross-industry implications, enhance technical capabilities, and make digital the default way of doing business."
