nbn has signed new development and fibre links contracts with two delivery partners to roll out National Broadband Network (NBN) services.
Following a multi-stage tender process, the company has signed the last multi-technology mix (MTM) construction agreements of the build with Fulton Hogan and Visionstream. Both Design and Construction Master Agreements (DCMA) will run over four years.
These contracts follow existing multi-technology integrated master agreement (MIMA) delivery contracts the companies re-signed with NBN in June 2015.
The MIMA arrangements enabled Fulton Hogan and Visionstream, and other partners WBHO, Downer, and Transfield, to cover four million premises with fibre to the node, fibre to the basement, or fibre to the premises.
As per the terms of the contract, both partners will deliver the NBN network to new development premises using nbn’s MTM as well as to nbn’s fibre links that support the underlying infrastructure of the national broadband network.
nbn said the two partnerships will support the deployment of the nbn network to an estimated 450,000 new development premises and 150 transit fibre links nationally.
nbn chief network engineering officer, Peter Ryan, said the DCMAs have been developed to allow combined design and construction delivery using a scale focused, end-to-end, outcome based, performance driven model.
“These new DCMA agreements provide us with the agility to deploy the NBN network to new homes in greenfield developments and in-fill brownfield areas,” he said.
He added that the contracts further progress the NBN build, representing the final MTM construction agreements.
Most recently, the government-owned company recently signed contracts with Telstra and Optus, taking ownership of the telcos’ HFC networks and using them as a key component in the MTM national broadband network blueprint.
“HFC remains a highly valued part of our MTM deployment, however, in balancing the requirements to convert Optus’s current network architecture and design to be nbn-ready, and the opportunity to introduce FTTdp, makes the new technology compelling in these selected areas,” Ryan said previously.
