State's Fremantle Ports seeks IT chief for five year plan, ahead of uncertain privatisation

Fremantle Ports, the WA government trading enterprise that manages the state’s largest container and cargo port, is seeking a chief information officer in a newly created role.

The body is implementing a new five year business plan, with a vision to become 'Australia’s best maritime gateway', and has formed the role to lead an enterprise wide ICT strategy.

Fremantle Ports is a Western Australian Government enterprise that manages the Port of Fremantle which includes a large property portfolio and port infrastructure that handles containerised cargoes, iron ore and cruise ships. It facilitates more than $26 billion of trade annually.

The successful candidate’s initial focus will be to “modernise and simplify core ICT services, establish a new governance framework, implement a new enterprise wide architecture and shape the ICT team for future success” the job listing stated.

Proven experience in leading major enterprise-wide transformation across medium or large scale complex ICT environments is required.

Hudson has been retained as the exclusive recruitment partner for the position, applications close on November 18.

The WA Government is currently seeking to lease the port, in a sale hoped to raise at least $2 billion, however that is dependent on the passage of enabling legislation which the Nationals, Greens and Labor oppose. Last month, in its annual container stevedoring monitoring report, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission raised “concerns about the privatisation process” as it stands.

Debate in the Legislative Assembly is yet to commence.
