Ciena announces senior management team amid APAC push

Ciena Corporation has announced the appointment of Anthony Mclachlan to the role of vice-president and David McDermott to the role of general manager as the networking company looks to expand is Asia-Pacific operations.
Both Mclachlan and McDermott joined the team after Ciena recently acquired Nortel's Metro Ethernet Networks (MEN) business.
Mclachlan said the Asia Pacific region is important to the future of Ciena.
"Asia-Pacific, and specifically Australian and New Zealand, is a critical market for us as we look to expand our global footprint and drive the adoption of our market-leading converged optical and Carrier Ethernet solutions," Mclachlan said.
The announcement is the latest from Ciena which now has over 1000 customers worldwide and is dubbing itself the "dark horse" in the NBN race.
Mclachlan said that while issues around the NBN have been important to his business and prominent in Australia, the topic of traffic volume has not been discussed as yet.
"What hasn't been discussed as much is the resulting explosion in demand for bandwidth in the core of the network, and our own research indicates that traffic volumes in the core will quickly reach multiple terabytes in a very short space of time,' Mclachlan said.
