BCS launches green accreditation for data centres

BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT, has today launched an accreditation for energy efficient data centres.

The Certified Energy Efficiency Data Centre Award (CEEDA) will be given to data centre operators who ensure that their infrastructure adopts best practice in terms of energy efficiency. The accreditation is based on the EU Code of Conduct for Data Centres.

DatacentreDynamics (DCD), the data centre market information provider, will carry out the assessments to make sure that data centres adhere to standards developed by the Institute.

The CEEDA includes a comprehensive report and action plan that outlines the energy-saving potential in the data centre. Data centres can have energy efficiency ratings of gold, silver or bronze, depending on the assessment outcomes.

Dan Scarborough co-founder and CEO of DCD said: "We believe it [the CEEDA] will provide a verifiable framework to enable data centre operators to benchmark their energy efficiency, against that of their peers and provide a roadmap for higher performance."

Companies that receive a CEEDA are also eligible to be listed on the online Register of Energy Efficient Data Centres.
