Shell to debut floating LNG plant in Australia

Shell announced that it will conduct the first application of its new floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) technology on two projects off the coast of Western Australia.

FLNG is a new method of LNG collection which has the ability to process gas on-site over an offshore gas field.

Shell said the new technology had the potential to decrease both LNG project costs and the environmental footprint of LNG extraction.

The Prelude and Concerto sites, in the Browse Basin, will utilize the new technology. Shell said both sites will be developed in the next 20 years, without giving further details.
