Ipswich City Council outsources to Data#3 cloud

Ipswich City Council (ICC) has signed a multi-million dollar outsourcing agreement with system integrator Data#3 (ASX:DTL).

The sum of the multi-year deal was not disclosed.

Under the contract, ICC will move its entire data centre infrastructure into Data#3’s cloud. According to an ASX statement, this will give the council a flexible pricing model and improved scalability. ICC already houses most of its data in the provider’s Ipswich data centre.

Data#3 will also be providing desktop support services to ICC.

ICC mayor Paul Pisasale said that moving into the cloud will give the council greater efficiencies, flexibility and reliability.

“With the increasing rapid rate of change in the way we do business it made good financial sense,” he said.

Data#3 was reappointed as a panel supplier to the Queensland government in May 2013 with the awarding of a computer hardware and associated services contract.

The three-year QGCPO 861-12 panel agreement includes desktop PCs, laptops, servers, mobile devices and associated services.

In February, it reported a 6.8 per cent revenue slide for the first half of 2013 to $406.2 million, compared to the same period last year.

The company blamed the drop on a change in timing of some licensing contract renewals and challenging market conditions, which have hampered hardware and services revenues.
