Nokia reveals Lumia 925 launch details

Nokia will launch its Lumia 925 Windows Phone in Australia this month, the company announced today.

The 4G smartphone will be available through Telstra and Optus, along with selected retail stores beginning this month.

The Lumia 925 will be available through Telstra from Tuesday, 30 July, and Optus from Thursday, 1 August. Neither telco has announced any pricing or plan details.

The phone will retail for $699 outright.

Nokia Australia’s managing director, Steve Lewis, said interest in the Lumia 925 has been encouraging.

"The Lumia 925 is undoubtedly Nokia’s best smartphone yet and we’re hugely encouraged by the interest in this device from our partners and consumers," he said.

"I believe that Nokia has reinforced its reputation as a major player in smartphone imaging, design and mapping and the Lumia 925 exemplifies the developments Nokia has made in these areas."

Nokia will also sell the Lumia 925 through a number of retailers from Wednesday, 17 July. The list of stockists includes Allphones, Dick Smith, JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, Network Communications, Fone Zone and Leading Edge.

The Lumia 925 is seemingly a direct response to criticism of the flagship Lumia 920. It has many of the same features of its predecessor, but is thinner, lighter and uses an aluminum frame.

It's the first Nokia phone to come preloaded with the company's Smart Camera app.

The Lumia 925 is also capable of wireless charging, but only with an optional wireless charging cover which clips to the back of the phone.
