Austrade, TransACT sign $1.7M data centre contract

Trade development agency Austrade has signed a five year, $1.7 million data centre services contract with iiNet Group subsidiary, TransACT, in Canberra.
Austrade ICT service delivery global manager, Nick Woodruff, said the deal will lay the architectural foundations to consider cloud computing as it matures.
“Co-locating our centres in Canberra secures our data centre future for the medium term, and lets us take advantage of near proximity, fibre-connected centres,” he said in a statement.
“This gives us architectural options not possible with our current model given that our disaster recovery facility is in Sydney.”
The agreement was reached through the federal government’s Ready Now panel for Data Centre Facilities, which is managed by the Department of Finance and Deregulation.
In October 2012, TransACT signed a $14.9 million, 10-year contract with law enforcement information sharing agency CrimTrac. This followed a $8.6 million deal in August with the Department of Finance and Deregulation, bringing the number of customers in the Canberra facility to 12.
The 2,800 square-metre building which dates back to 1971 received a retrofit in 2012 and has a power utilisation efficiency (PUE) of 1.3.
