Updated: Australian Crime Commission on the hunt for CIO

The Australian Crime Commission is searching for its first CIO who will be involved in a range of data mining and analytics projects.

"A key project underway is the ACID/ALIEN scoping study, which will make recommendations about the future of the Australian Criminal Intelligence Database (ACID) and Australian Law Enforcement Intelligence Network ALEIN," said ACC executive director Paul Williams.

"The ACC’s National Criminal Intelligence Fusion Capability (Fusion) uses data analytics to improve our ability to identify, monitor and respond to the highest criminal threats. We leverage analytics to apply a risk-based approach to exploiting our data.

"The final implementation phase (Phase 4) of Fusion is also a major focus for the ACC, in furthering its criminal intelligence data holdings and data matching and mining capabilities. Phase 4 runs for the current (2013-14) financial year and will transition the remaining new capabilities to live."

In early July this year, the ACC decided it needed a dedicated CIO as it underwent a restructure, according to a ACC spokesperson.

Former national manager Mike Harrison took on the responsibilities of a CIO as part of his role before he left the organisation around May 2013. Maria Milosavljevic has been acting in the CIO role since May 2013.

Narelle Lovett also recently took on the role of CTO, succeeding Andrew Cann who became CIO of the Department of Sport and Recreation in June 2013.

The salary for this position starts at $149,000 per annum, plus super allowance in lieu of a car.

The full-time role will be based in Canberra.

The selection criteria for applicants include demonstrated ability to shape strategic thinking, achieve results, exemplify personal development and professionalism, foster productive working relationships, and influence and persuade.

Applicants will also need to complete a pre-employment screening form for background and character checking, as well as for psychological assessing.
