Updated: Vodafone CIO Andrew Wiles to leave today

Vodafone Hutchison Australia (VHA) CIO Andrew Wiles will leave the telco today after one year and eight months in the role, the company confirmed.

It is unclear if Wiles is immediately moving into another role.

A telecommunications industry veteran, Wiles joined VHA in October 2012. He moved across from IBM where he was a “global deal maker” between 2010 and 2012. Prior to that, Wiles spent just over eight years at HP’s enterprise services division.

Vodafone said it would absorb Wiles' role within its technology team.

During his tenure, the telco has moved to a single brand merging 3, Crazy John's and Vodafone. The telco also moved data centres, created an Agile IT environment, and transferred its customer self service functions to Amazon's cloud computing infrastructure.

"Our IT transformation under Andrew’s leadership has been significant and he has led the IT team through a period of change to deliver some great outcomes for our business. We wish him all the best with his future endeavours," a Vodafone spokesperson told CIO.

In November last year, Wiles told the Australian Financial Review that over the next three years, the telco would spend hundreds of millions of dollars combining data centres, increasing its use of big data, and improving CRM systems.

Earlier this month, new Vodafone CEO Inaki Berroeta said the company is now boasting 96 per cent network coverage across 2G, 3G and 4G networks. He claimed it had a 40 per cent consumer market share in Sydney.

In 2011, Vodafone lost more than 375,000 customers due to network problems and customer service issues.
