CIO Vito Forte leaves Fortescue Metals

CIO of Fortescue Metals Group, Vito Forte, will leave Fortescue Metals at the end of January, a company spokesperson has confirmed.

The spokesperson did not reveal the reason for Forte’s departure but it follows media reports in December last year that director of development Peter Meurs, director of shared services Peter Thomas, security director Isak Buitendag, and head of procurement Kevin McCafferty had left the company.

Fortescue announced in November that in 2015 it would halve its capital expenditure budget to $US650 million.

Forte joined Fortescue as CIO in 2011. Before then, he was CIO at WorleyParsons and has held IT manager and systems support roles at Transfield.

In June last year, Forte won the Western Australian CIO of the Year state iAwards for demonstrating substantial improvement in the performance in his organisation.

During his time at the mining company, Forte migrated more than 4000 staff to Office 365 for email and BYOD capability, collaboration, scalability and storage.

He also deployed HP Converged Infrastructure, which includes HP CloudSystem Matrix , to its data centre in Perth to reduce downtime and enhance performance. HP Networking 10508 Switch Series was implemented to create a virtualized 20GbE network that offered high performance and low latency.
