Rio Tinto signs $20M IT services deal with Empired

Mining giant, Rio Tinto has signed a $20 million, five-year managed services contract with IT services company, Empired Limited.
Under the deal, Empired is providing the organisation with application support and project services for more than 170 unique applications. These span several technologies including legacy platforms, Oracle, Microsoft .Net, Microsoft SharePoint, and Microsoft CRM.
The applications are largely technical systems used in the management of field operations spanning mining, processing, rail and port facilities.
This follows Rio Tinto’s announcement last month that it would migrate core enterprise IT systems to the cloud following an agreement with Accenture.
This program includes modernising existing enterprise resourcing planning, information management platforms and consolidating these applications in the public cloud.
Empired also recently signed managed services agreements with Toyota and a $12 million agreement with the Ministry of Primary Industries in New Zealand.
