Department of Communications appoints new CIO

The Department of Communications and the Arts has appointed Shaun McGuiggan as its new CIO.

McGuiggan has joined the department as part of a machinery of government change following two years as assistant secretary for the Attorney-General's Department in Canberra.

He also served as CIO for the Department of Regional Australia, Local Government, Arts and Sport between March 2012 and November 2013. This agency was abolished in September 2013 with its functions moved to other Australian Government departments.

McGuiggan also has experience working in business transition management with the Department of Immigration.

He replaces Megan Henry, who took over the role in September 2014 after the agency’s long term CIO, Lee Di Berardino, moved to the Department of Defence. Henry served in the role for 14 months, and has now moved into a role in ICT Business Engagement for the department.

McGuiggan will oversee the continued implementation of the agency’s $18 million contract with ASG, which Henry helped negotiate in May this year.

The five-year contract includes the migration of the department's services offsite and into a hosted environment, plus infrastructure-as-a-service functions.
