iiNet's founder and former CEO, Michael Malone, joining NBN's board

iiNet founder and former CEO, Michael Malone, has joined the NBN board, filling a vacancy left Internode co-founder, Simon Hackett, who resigned to focus on his involvement in ASX-listed company, Redflow Limited.

Hackett is the largest shareholder in Redflow and was recently appointed as executive chairman.

NBN chairman, Dr Ziggy Switkowski, said Malone is a long-standing and respected member of the telecommunications industry with experience that will complement the diverse backgrounds of skillsets that exist on today’s NBN board.

“I look forward to Michael bringing new perspectives to the board table, keeping NBN focused upon our customers, valuing innovation, and successfully completing the network build,” Dr Switkowski said in a statement.

Malone founded iiNet in 1993 and was chief executive office for more than 20 years. He also built cybersecurity firm, Diamond Cyber, and has served on the boards of listed technology and media companies SpeedCast Limited, Superloop, and Seven West Media.

Hackett said in a statement: “It is with a sense of regret that I must bid farewall to the NBN team and to my colleagues at the NBN board. I will greatly miss the experience of being in the midst of something very pivotal in a space I care so much about.

“It’s been a privilege to be part of such as endeavor and I would jump at the chance to return if future opportunity should arise,” he said.
