CIOs talk about staying strategic

It’s the bête noire of C-level managers the world over — too often, it’s easy to be pulled into the morass of day-to-day issues at the expense of strategy. If the role is predominantly operational, fair enough, but being forced into operations when you were hired to be strategic (or vice versa) is frustrating for everybody involved. So how do CIOs balance operations and strategy? Aligning the departmental business plan with the organisation’s strategic plan is an obvious starting point. Beyond that, however, CIOs have developed their own methods of staying strategic.

Defence signs with Fujitsu, Di Data

The Department of Defence has signed Fujitsu for the delivery of multiple ICT services for its distributed computing central services (DCCS) contract, including the Defence Central ICT service helpdesk in a deal worth $151.3 million. The deal is one of two ICT contracts with the department worth more than $180 million. Defence has also signed Dimension Data in a two-year, $29 million deal to provide network hardware maintenance support.

Department of Health and Ageing seeks e-health CIO

Movement continues within the CIO ranks as two more organisations advertise for chief information offices, including the federal Department of Health and Aging. The department is this week advertising for a Chief Information and Knowledge Officer to develop “a portfolio-wide framework for capturing, documenting and using information and knowledge”.
