ATO awards $60m-a-year desktop deal to Lockheed Martin

The Australian Taxation Office has awarded Lockheed Martin — a US technology giant more known for its strengths in the construction of fighter jets and missiles than in enterprise IT services — preferred tenderer status for a contract estimated at $60 million a year for the provision of desktop PC and other end-user computing services.

NBN Co execs must maintain strong vision and leadership

As the sun rises, so must it also set. Just as promotions inside the ranks of the National Broadband Network Company (NBN Co) have taken place speedily over the past year since it was formed, so have departures. Most of NBN Co's first rank of hires over the past year — and all of its most senior executives — have remained in their seats since joining the company in its first year of operation. However, several senior staff have left the fledgling fibre company during their first year of employment.

Qld Premier releases terms for McComiskie review of shared services

Queensland Premier Anna Bligh today released the terms of reference for the wide-ranging review planned of state government IT shared services agency, Corptech, as unionised nurses in the state intensify pressure on the Government over its disastrous health payroll systems upgrade. The State Government contracted PricewaterhouseCoopers partner Roger McComiskie to review CorpTech - the government's applications shared services provider - several weeks ago as it broadly abandoned its whole of government push into shared services in the wake of the Queensland Health debacle.

Internode, iiNet, VHA won't filter for now

National broadband provider Internode this afternoon stated that -- unlike Telstra, Optus and Primus -- it would not voluntarily filter its customers' internet for websites that are known to contain child pornography and child abuse material, while iiNet said it would wait to see the detail in the proposal and VHA is awaiting a code for the mobile industry.
