Michael Connory

CEO, Security in Depth

Michael is an innovator, researcher and commentator recognised as one of Australia’s leading voices in cyber security. Michael is the CEO of Security in Depth, a global company founded on Cyber Security research providing Cyber risk management strategies and support to organisations around the world. Michael has been involved in leading edge cyber security research as well as developing innovative new products including: Cyber Assurance Risk Rating (CARR), Candiru – simulated cyber-attack solution and GuardMyID focused on identity protection.
In a previous life, Michael led teams at Oracle, Gemalto and Volante, has worked with Governments and business around the world on leading identity and security solutions.

Emilie Ditton

AVP for IDC Energy Insights and Head of IDC’s Asia/Pacific Energy and Worldwide Mining practices

Emilie Ditton is AVP for IDC Energy Insights and is the Head of IDC’s Asia/Pacific Energy and Worldwide Mining practices. She has been leading IDC’s mining sector research for the last five years and her core research coverage focuses on the evolution of technology strategies of mining and energy companies as they respond to changing marketplaces, the requirement to create operational excellence, and changing customer expectations. Her research has a particular focus on the interplay among technology, people, and processes within the operations of mining and energy companies. She supports clients by looking at maturity, best practices, and technology ecosystem trends.

Ms. Ditton is a chemical engineer who started her career in the utilities sector with the Australian Gas Light (AGL) Company in Sydney during the introduction of price deregulation and was a core team member who contributed to modeling the capital value of assets and their utilization across the network as the basis of pricing. Following her work at AGL, she then moved to London, where she worked in senior roles for British Telecom (BT), first in BT Wholesale and then BT Government, assessing opportunities for BT at a time of considerable transformation in ICT use by the U.K. government. She then moved back to Australia and became a senior member of the Ovum Telecoms consulting team in Melbourne before her current role for IDC.

Hai Tran

CISO, WA Police

Hai Tran is an experienced ICT governance, risk and compliance leader who works for the Western Australia Police Force as the Chief Information Security Officer. Hai has over 20 years of experience across a broad range of industry sectors including higher education, telecommunications, law enforcement and federal government.

He has a pragmatic and business led approach to security based on the philosophy that security should be an enabler, pervasive and frictionless. He has a track record of building high performing teams, and embedding security into business processes to enable technology innovation and enhance business performance.

Hai is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), and holds a Masters of Electronic Commerce (Murdoch University), Bachelor of Commerce (University of WA) and Diploma of Policing (Australian Federal Police College).

Andy Weir

Executive General Manager - Technology & Transformation, Bankwest

Andy Weir is the Bankwest Executive General Manager, Technology and Transformation.

Andy is a member of the Bankwest Executive Leadership Team, which is responsible for setting and driving Bankwest’s organisational strategy. Andy’s remit also extends to technology, operations and change management based on more than 20 years’ leadership experience in delivering major strategic and organisational change in both Europe and Australia.

Andy has led a number of transformational, culture changes across Bankwest including the national retail expansion program, creating one of Australia’s most innovative distribution networks. He also played an integral role in establishing an activity-based working culture and led the Bankwest and Commonwealth Bank of Australia integration program.

Andy is a driving force behind Bankwest’s organisational transformation to new agile, ways of working in order to meet their customers’ rapidly changing needs in the digital age.

Sam McCready

Chief Information Officer, Racing & Wagering WA

Sam is the Chief Information Officer at Racing & Wagering WA. Having joined in 2017 Sam is part of the executive team and has been responsible for a change of strategy and execution to realise a transformation in the culture, ‘Ways of Working’ and technical direction. These changes have supported the growth and continuous improvement of the customer offerings of the Wagering arm of the business through the TAB and TAB touch brands.
Sam leads a technical team of 160 people that are responsible for supporting the delivery of the Strategic outcomes needed by the Racing, Wagering and corporate areas of the company.

Experienced in leading commercial and strategic outcomes, prior to his time at RWWA, Sam has been responsible for operational excellence, digital growth, innovation, customer experience and banking integrations for organisations such as Bankwest in Australia and internationally at The Royal Bank of Scotland, NatWest and Ulster Bank.

Jonathon Leow

Senior Research Manager, IDC Asia/Pacific

Jonathan Leow is the Senior Research Manager for IDC Asia/Pacific’s Energy Insights Team. He is responsible for delivering IDC’s oil and gas and utilities research within the region. His core research coverage focuses on the enabling impact of technology and the changing operational landscape of oil and gas companies seeking to leverage technology to optimize and modernize their business. Jonathan’s key areas of research include, IT/OT integration, next generation ERP, connect asset management / digital twins using IOT and cognitive / AI enablement. He supports clients through his knowledge of remote operations, engineering process and operational technology best practice.

Jonathan is a petroleum engineer, his career began in Perth as a field service engineer at the global oil field services provider Schlumberger where he was involved in two product service lines (PSL) of, Drilling (D&M) and Wireline. He then transitioned to supply chain within an operator responsible for well site services and working in drilling & completions for the execution of coal seam gas wells. Following that he has experience working in Asia including global marine services provider Bumi Armada where his responsibilities included delivery of major projects like the North Sea heavy oil (Floating Production Storage & Offloading) FPSO Armada Kraken, corporate procurement function and project commercial for the OFS department. Prior to joining IDC, Jonathan was at HCL as the global oil and gas center of excellence based out of Perth, proving solution direction and sales support. In this time, he helped co-create solutions for the oil and gas industry ranging from virtual rig operations training to digital twin modeling with IOT integration.

Peter Lawther

Chief Technology Officer, Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand

Peter has worked in the IT industry for 20 years in technical leadership roles and is currently the Chief Technology Officer for Fujitsu Oceania.

Peter is a passionate technologist and enterprise architect who has worked with global and regional customers to define future state architectures and digital transformation strategies.

Peter has worked extensively across sales and delivery and has secured and delivered global contracts ranging from $50 million to in excess of 1$ billion US dollars.

More recently as Chief Technology Officer for Fujitsu Peter has provided leadership in the establishment and growth of Fujitsu’s Digital Business capabilities.

Having led the development of the strategic direction for the Digital Business, he still actively participates in the Fujitsu incubation program and customer co-creation activities. Peter is a member of the Fujitsu Global CTO community and supports the transfer and implementation of Fujitsu IP into the Oceania Region.

Peter has always had a special interest in technological futures and more recently Human Centric Innovation, where the connection between the physical and digital worlds are becoming more obscured as our trust in technology changes.

Daniel Nimmo

Senior Research Manager, IDC Australia

Daniel Nimmo is the senior research manager for worldwide mining based out of IDC Energy Insights in Australia. Daniel is responsible for managing IDC worldwide mining industry insights and end user research programs which provides a 360 degree perspective of the ICT industry from both a vendor and business end user point of view. His primary focus is to analyses demand and key market opportunities for IT services providers in New Zealand. He is responsible for appraising the strategies of IT service providers, assessing market opportunities and providing comprehensive insights integrating end user market intelligence including CIO preferences, technology deployment plans and business priorities.

Prior to joining IDC in 2018, Daniel has over 25 years of experience in Information Management Systems and Management Practices in Asia Pacific. Much of it around leading management change through Innovative thinking and creative use of information technology, linked to sound business principles and practices.

Daniel studied in Aberdeen and Princeton giving him qualifications in Mechanical Engineering and Economics. These disciples provided a solid basis for his early career in the offshore and mining sectors before his move into Information Technology.

Peter Nevin, BAppSc, MAICD, AACS, MCEC(ABM)

Peter has more than 30 years international experience bridging information technology, business strategy, change management, operations and executive leadership. He has held senior executive roles across both public and private sector organisations; from start-ups, SMEs to ASX listed corporations and multi-nationals.

Peter is recognised for possessing a rare talent for turning around failing operations, successfully integrating mergers and acquisitions and digitally transforming organisations to achieve international expansion and competitive advantage.

His experience is complemented by a Bachelor of Applied Science (Computing) and a professional background in management consulting gained with Deloitte.

Stuart Long

Senior Director of Systems Sales Consulting for Oracle Systems Asia Pacific and Japan. He worked extensively with Oracle Enterprise customers throughout Asia Pacific and Japan designing and deploying mission critical solutions in Telecommunications, Finance, Manufacturing and Government sectors.

With over 20 years of experience in the Asia Pacific region he
possesses a wealth of knowledge in Solution Design and IT
Architecture. Stuart holds a bachelor degree in Computer Science and Business Law from Macquarie University Australia.

Byron Connolly

Editor-in-Chief, CIO Australia

Byron Connolly is a highly experienced technology and business journalist and editor with 20 years’ experience. As the editor-in-chief of CIO Australia he is responsible for commissioning, writing and editing content that appears on, published by IDG Communications – Australia. Byron also facilitates roundtables and conferences for senior IT and business executives and creates content from these events.

Prior to this role, Byron was a senior writer and editor at Editor Group, a Sydney-based corporate writing agency, where he produced editorial material for some of the world’s top technology and consulting companies.

Byron was editor of technology channel publication, CRN Australia, published by Haymarket Media Group, and held senior editorial roles at technology publications ITNews and Information Week at Penton Media and APN News and Media.
