BigPond ultimate cable plans now available in Melbourne

A demand for higher bandwidth to surf the internet, play games online or download movies simultaneously was behind the standalone plans

Residents in selected areas of Melbourne now have access to Telstra’s BigPond ultimate cable plans.

Consumer executive director, Rebekah O’Flaherty, said consumer demand had prompted the introduction of the standalone plans.

“The average Melbourne household has entered a new age of online connectivity," O'Flaherty said in a statement. "Telstra research reveals more than half of all households now feature four or more types of internet enabled devices ranging from wireless laptops to smartphones."

According to O’Flaherty, the plans delivers fast speeds and increased bandwidth which would allow household members to share the same high speed broadband connection to surf the internet, play games online or download movies simultaneously.

For example, Melbourne based customers could download an entire music album in about two minutes.

Under the deal, customers with a fixed line Telstra phone would get BigPond Ultimate 50GB Liberty for a cost of $79.95 and BigPond Ultimate 200GB Liberty at a cost of $99.95 per month on a 12-month plan.
