A day after announcing the HTC Desire S and Wildfire S Android handsets, Telstra has indicated it will offer the high-end Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone in July, but won’t say for how much.

The successor to the Galaxy S “iPhone killer”, the second-generation Galaxy S II features a 4.3-inch touch screen with Samsung's Super AMOLED Plus display technology.

The phone runs an ARM Cortex-A9 dual-core processor with a clock speed of 1.2GHz.

Last week Optus announced it will begin selling the Galaxy S II for $5 a month on the $59 plan from June.

Earlier this month Vodafone dropped the price of the Galaxy S to $29 a month on a 24-month contract indicating the S II may be on its way there too.

Telstra spokesperson Peter Symons said pricing and in-store availability for the Galaxy S II will be announced “a little closer to launch”.

The Samsung Galaxy S II runs Android version 2.3 ‘Gingerbread’. Connectivity includes up to 21Mbps over HSPA and 802.11n Wi-Fi.

The rear of the handset has an eight megapixel camera capable of 1080p HD video recording. There is also a lower resolution front-facing camera

Warwick Bray, executive director of Telstra mobile products said with the company’s Next G network, the Galaxy S II will “set new benchmarks for mobile handset internet speeds in Australia”.

“Teamed with Australia’s only HSPA+ network, the Galaxy S II will support download speeds up to twice a fast as those available on competitor networks in capitals and selected areas,” Bray said.

“We think our customers are going to love this super-thin smartphone which features an extraordinarily vivid 4.3-inch screen and one of the best cameras we have seen on a phone.”
