Anonymous has issued a protest campaign on Twitter aimed at PayPal users where it has urged account holders to close their accounts following the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) arrest of US Anonymous Operations members for allegedly targeting PayPal with a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack last year.
In a media statement, the group provided instructions on how to close PayPal accounts and also urged people to consider an alternative secure payment website.
"The first step to being truly free is not putting one's trust into a company that freezes accounts when it feels like, or when it is pressured by the US government," read the statement.
The group wrote in another statement that hacking a website and not stealing any money was enough "to get a person 15 years in jail, while rapists only get 11 years”.
They went on to say that having a website DDoSed can lose a company revenue, but the company could always gain that back.
"Being raped, however, you can never get back," the statement reads.
“That is something that can stay with you forever, and getting a sexually transmitted disease [STD] from being raped can too.”
The hacker group said DDoSing was just a cyber sit-in and was "not very damaging”.
