Microsoft has appointed Steven Worrall as its Australian managing director following the departure of Pip Marlow.
Worrall had been enterprise & partner group director since July 2014 and prior to that he held several marketing, sales and general management positions at IBM, most recently vice president, software sales, Asia Pacific.
Marlow is leaving Microsoft after 21 years of service to undertake the role of CEO of strategic innovation at Suncorp.
Marlow was appointed as managing director in January 2011 and during this time, she launched two cloud data centre ergions in Australia and opened Microsoft’s first store outside of North America.
She has advocated for greater diversity and inclusion in the workplace, the need for STEM education, and was recognised as one of the Australian Financial Review’s Women of Influence.
In 2013, Marlow was one of a few senior IT industry executives grilled at the parliamentary inquiry into IT pricing. At the time, Marlow blamed labour and rental costs, compliance with local laws, customer perception and increased competition for the up to 70 per cent price disparity between the company’s products Australia and the United States.
Worrall will start work on January 1.
