Former Westfield director of IT, Peter Bourke, has been appointed head of group information systems at Hong Kong-based conglomerate CK Hutchison Holdings Limited.

Bourke is responsible for IT activities across CK Hutchison’s five businesses – ports and related services, retail, infrastructure, energy, and telecommunications. Hutchison Telecommunications Australia is a subsidiary of CK Hutchison Holdings.

Bourke left Westfield in December 2014 after 10 years in the role and since then he has consulted to Intel, TAFE NSW, and digital startup organisations.

He takes charge of a large IT group that manages technology infrastructure for more than 270,000 staff in around 50 countries.

Bourke will introduce shared services across the organisation's applications and infrastructure, set IT policy and standards, manage budgets and governance activities, and identify new technology to be implemented across the group.

CK Hutchison-owned A.S. Watson Group is the biggest retailer in the world with around 14,500 retail sites spread across Asia-Pacific and Europe. Bourke said his extensive retail experience at Westfield helped him secure the role.

At CK Hutchison, Bourke will introduce retail technologies, particularly in the areas of data analytics and business intelligence solutions, which he rolled out during his time at Westfield.

He will also be examining CK Hutchison’s existing global contracts with the likes of Oracle, Microsoft and HP.

“There are good contracts in place but it’s about getting more value out of them,” he said.

Bourke has spent the majority of his career working in Australia and this is his first role in Hong Kong. He has also previously worked in London and New York.

“For me, the opportunity was also about living in an exciting place where there’s a lot of great business activity and a lot of innovative technology."
