Seagate BlackArmor WS 110 (2TB) DAS device

Seagate calls its BlackArmor WS 110 a direct-attached storage (DAS) device, but in most respects it's a fairly standard external hard drive. Aimed at businesses looking to back up individual computers, the BlackArmor WS 110 provides AES 256-bit hardware encryption, extremely fast transfer speeds and comprehensive backup software.

Synology DiskStation DS209+II NAS device

Synology's DiskStation DS209+II network-attached storage (NAS) device provides up to 4TB of storage over two hard drives. The lack of hot-swapping and volume encryption features are disappointing, but fast file transfers and easy-to-use media streaming make this an appealing option for the home.

LaCie Rikiki (500GB) portable hard drive

LaCie's latest portable hard drive, the Rikiki, isn't named after the monkey from The Lion King. According to the company, Rikiki means "tiny" in French, and the name is certainly appropriate.

Edimax nLite Wireless 3G Broadband Router (3G-6200n)

Routers with 802.11n wireless technology are getting cheaper all the time, but you’d still expect to flesh out over $200 for anything decent. While Edimax's nLite Wireless 3G Broadband Router (3G-6200n) may not be a full 802.11n Wi-Fi device, it can distribute both mobile broadband (3G) and cable/ADSL connections over a comparable distance to proper 802.11n routers, and at a usable speed.

Canon PIXMA Pro9000 Mark II A3+ inkjet photo printer

Amateur shutterbugs will find plenty to like with the Canon PIXMA Pro9000 Mark II inkjet photo printer, including great output, A3+ media support and dye-based consumables for printing on glossy media. Unfortunately, the lack of colour configuration options and an inability to use some heavy stock will deter professionals.

Western Digital My Book Elite (2TB) external hard drive

Western Digital's refreshed My Book Elite 2TB external hard drive offers intuitive backup options, 256-bit AES hardware encryption, and an e-ink capacity indicator. However, there are faster USB 2.0-based external hard drives that have passed through our Test Centre, and it doesn't offer any alternative connections like eSATA.

Apple iMac 21.5in (Late 2009)

Apple's refreshed iMac desktop computer is cheaper but more powerful than its predecessor, and it features a more vibrant display. If you're still a Windows user or have an older Mac, the latest iMac is certainly tempting. However, we weren't impressed by the new Magic Mouse, which is bundled with the iMac.

HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m inkjet multifunction

HP's Photosmart Premium C309g-m offers many of the features you would expect from an inkjet multifunction in this price range, like Wi-Fi, advanced photo printing functions and even a touch screen. However, it lacks CD/DVD printing and we experienced issues when connecting to a wireless network.

Canon PIXMA iX7000 A3 inkjet printer

Canon's PIXMA iX7000 is the company's second business-focussed A3 inkjet printer, and it's one of the most expensive on the market. It is big, slow and noisy but offers automatic duplex and network connectivity, and it produces great quality A4 and A3 output.

The Prestige Pro805 is Lexmark's newest mid-range business inkjet multifunction. It offers USB, Ethernet and Wi-Fi connectivity and a multi-card reader supporting SD, MemoryStick, xD and MMC. Its touch screen and SmartSolutions widgets make it easy to use, but we weren't impressed by its speed and print quality.
